I made a purchase today that has me feeling oddly grown up, in a strange way. I bought an iron and ironing board.
I’ve always been about the comfy clothes that don’t need special washing care (or if they do I just chuck ’em in the washing machine anyway). My only concession has been to hang dry some things, rather than putting them in the dryer. But since I’ll be buying grown up office clothes for January and I need to iron my gi for grading in a couple weeks, and I have a few things that would just look better if they were freshly ironed – I bought one.
I also bought a scale. I haven’t ever owned one of those before either but I’m trying something new in terms of eating and weight loss and fitness – the program is called be healthy and not stupid in your eating choices and stop obsessing about it – and I figure having a scale around will help to keep me on track if I start to go off the deep end with bad food. I can’t see it happening though – more and more, all I want to eat is healthy home cooked food. Every time I have take-out, it’s not as good as I was hoping it to be, and it’s usually so full of sodium that I feel like a blimp for a few days afterwards. Oh – speaking of that, I just learned that potassium helps to purge the body of sodium, so eating a banana or a kiwi the day after a sodium splurge helps to take care of the bloated feeling. Just thought I’d share.
The only down side to buying this stuff is that I still have extra furniture in my place. I have a coffee table, a desk, and a Poang chair and matching footstool, and hopefully am going to be donating them in the next few weeks. Until then, my house is stuffed full of furniture, making it feel crowded and messy. Not my ideal living conditions but I’m working on it. Once the furniture is out of here, the de-cluttering will go much faster. Yay for less stuff!
In other news, I went to the dentist today and I have two more cavities that need to be filled. I’ve never had enough enamel so I’m prone to cavities. Good thing they use the white fillings now because otherwise my mouth would set off the metal detectors at the airport!
And I have finally made the appointment to get my trunk fixed. It’s happening next Thursday. Next thing on the agenda is finding a place to patch up the scratches on my bumper, and my car will be good as new again, which is good because I’m seriously considering selling it next year and buying a Honda Fit – I’m so in love with my Civic but I want a hatchback and the Fit looks to be good with mileage because it has a small engine. I also miss having four doors. I didn’t think it was something I needed but I’ve realized that having to continually pull the front seat forward to get to the back is a pain in the ass, and I carry stuff around enough that having four doors makes better sense for me. And it will be waaay better suited to camping, and when I eventually have dogs.
