Shepherd’s Pie
December 1, 2007erin 5 Comments »So yum, and so easy.
Make mashed potatoes. Set aside.
Brown up 500 grams of extra lean ground beef. Add one package of shepherd’s pie seasoning and some veg. I added celery and a package of frozen peas, corn, and green beans. Stir.
Put beef mixture in casserole dish; mashed potatoes go on top. Smooth out the lumps.
Put in oven on 350 for approx 30 minutes.

Mashed potatoes are my favorite food in the world.

They are damn high up on my list too. Normally if I’m making mashed potatoes I steam some garlic in with them and mash it all up together. It makes the best garlic mashed potatoes ever.

“add one pkg of shepherd’s pie seasoning” – that sounds sketchy – I didn’t even know Shepherd’s pie seasoning existed!
For the record I recently found an all-natural brand of indian seasoning mixes at T&T. I think Safeway carries them too – the rice Biryani mix is really good!!! I’ll let you know what it is called as soon as I find the damn stuff…

Why does that sound sketchy? There’s all kinds of seasoning packages at Safeway, for chili and stew and sloppy joes, etc. I’m lazy and don’t want to spice it myself, so I get the package and throw it in.

I guess I shoulda said that I want to know what spices are in the mix instd of sketchy. You know how I am with food – obsessed. I even get pissed off when my cookbooks say to use storebought tortillas for mexican recipes because I would rather them give me a recipe for tortillas from scratch anyways. I get worried about pre-packaged spice mixes because they have words I don’t understand on the labels (ie salts and additives and preservatives) but I know they’re not always that way now, I got so excited when I saw those natural indian mixes, it was like a moment when the skies opened and angels sang down on me. I don’t think you’re lazy btw.- you’re smart. I get overzealous and end up making my healthy food taste weird and then I don’t want to eat it. When I go to grocery stores I end up going broke because I spend all my money on freeze dried dill, lemon thyme, ground cumin, etc. – I have never spent time looking at the pre-made mixes because I assumed they’re all bad for me. But then when I go to make stuff I sometimes end up putting too many dif. spices in and it doesn’t always end up good. Hell I bought polenta four weeks ago and I’m still scared to screw it up so it’s been in the cupboard all this time. I should go find that seasoning and try it because I’m not a fan of the way my dad makes Shepherd’s pie… he uses leftover pot roast which I’m not crazy about in the first place so the ground beef would probably be better for me, too!
Thanks for the recipe!
P.S. I’m all done for school so let me know how your schedule is for the next while because I need to start spending time around ppl instd of textbooks.
