PPV hockey
December 2, 2007erin No Comments »My parents bought/rented/stole the box for PPV yesterday. My mother, who has had an on-again-off-again love affair with hockey, is firmly on the on-again side and wants to be able to watch all the games. My father, who has played hockey his whole life and used to have half-season tickets when the Canucks were at the Coloseum, seems to not really care one way or the other. Mum tried to sell the box as a Christmas present for Dad, who just shrugged and was all, whatever.
I, on the other hand, have mixed emotions. While it will be nice to watch PPV games again without going across town, it means I have to spend time with the parental unit. Things have been rocky for the past year (probably longer but Christmas last year really sticks out) and while I can manage to deal with them on a one-on-one basis, together is not so good. One bonus is that Shorty does the play-by-play on PPV which means that we can listen to the commentator in sync with the action – usually Mum has the radio on to listen to Shorty and it’s never quite synced up. So you can imagine Shorty, “Naslund shoots, SCORES! What a fantastic play that was!” and we’re watching the tv with baited breath for Naslund to get the puck and then oh! He scored! Didn’t see that coming!
Anyway. Dad is coming to get me in about half an hour since it’s snowing like stink outside which means I’m not driving. Which means I can’t leave when I want to, so for my sake send happy non-argumentative thoughts my way, or maybe just an extra ounce of patience. I’d like to watch the whole game without wanting to tear my hair out. Or others, for that matter.
