Raw food

Andy has been acting weird about his raw food in the past week or so. I thought that maybe it was that he prefers his chicken and turkey to the more gamey stuff of ostrich, buffalo, and venison, but that appears to not be it. He didn’t eat his venison that I put out last night before I went to bed so he woke me up around 3am wanting to be fed. No wonder – ’cause he’s hungry! When I got up at 4:40 (going to work – boo) I saw his dish was still full so I chucked it and gave him the rest of the venison, fresh from the fridge.

No dice.

Being a good cat guardian, I decided to defrost some turkey in the microwave and give him that instead, because I don’t want him to be hungry. He fell on it immediately and so I thought the problem was solved, at least for right now. But he hardly made a dint in his dish before wandering away from it, and yet I know that he’s hungry.

I want him to eat his raw food so I don’t want to put out kibble for him while I’m at work – normally for an open I give him raw in the morning and then some kibble when I get home to tide him over until dinnertime but if he’s not eating his turkey then I’m going to be thinking about him, hungry, all day while I’m at work.

Dogs are so much easier than cats. It just doesn’t come intuitively to me with Andy, but I keep trying.

Trying to convince my dog to eat is how I spend a good portion of my day. I’ve taken to hiding treats at the bottom of the bowl in hopes that when she finds them, she remembers, and digs right in next time. Or throwing a milk bone on top. So far, not working.

This morning, I took one of the treats that she really, held it IN HER MOUTH, then tossed it into the food dish. She shrugged and walked away.

My dog? She is the insane.
