Another green step
February 18, 2008Erin 4 Comments »I just emailed Telus, asking if they have an option of opt out of receiving phone books. I do not believe that they have such an option right now, but maybe if they receive enough requests asking, they may start. The form to email them is found here – it takes two seconds and could save tonnes of paper. Go give them a nudge now.
Update:

Telus is apparently not involved in the phone book distribution, so please try these links instead.

I handed ours back to the person who delivered it. And then this morning they were back in front of the apartment next door.
Man, are they tenacious.

Further to your request, this is the response I got from using that form.
“Please contact Yellow Pages group as they are responsible for the delivery and publishing of the directories, not TELUS thanks”
That’s it. Nice customer service, excellent punctuation.

Here’s the “contact us” email form for yellowpages.ca:

Thanks for taking the initiative to encourage opting out of receiving a phone book. I agree, the default should be NOT receiving a phone book unless requested. The phone book is available online for free and via text messaging 604411 for free.
I received two phone books this year, one from yellowpages and one from canpages. You can email them at:

Lori, it’s interesting that you got that response. I got an auto-reply email saying that someone will be in touch with me within 5-10 business days. Then they gave me a number if I wanted a more immediate response. 5-10 business days? It could take them two weeks to get back to me? *shakes head* That’s not customer service – that’s customer avoidance.
Jeanie, thanks for posting that link. I’m going to edit my post to reflect the new information.
