Update

I am 23 days into my six weeks off, with 19 more to go.

I may be hitting the wall a wee bit.

The house is looking good – I need to hang some pictures and buy some goodies at IKEA, but mostly it’s all done (except for the office but I’m closing the door and ignoring that for now).

I can walk without crutches, but not for any length of time. I’m looking out the window at a gorgeous sunny day and wanting to go for a walk, but that’s out of the question until I’m a bit more healed.

Dad and I adventured to the pool on Monday night and I walked back and forth in the shallow end. It felt so good to move. I may have finally reached the end of my year long lazy stretch. I even ventured into the deep end with my kickboard – I just needed to immerse myself in the water. I used to be such a water baby; in fact, I remember my mother threatening to take me out of swimming lessons if I didn’t start listening to my instructor, because I wouldn’t stay on the table in the shallow end. I wanted to swim! Only, I didn’t know how yet and so I would sink and need to be ‘rescued’ and put back on the table. I spent many hours in the pool as a kid, doing lessons. I even got my lifeguarding certification but never put it to use because the North Van Rec requires lifeguards to teach lessons as well as guard and we all know how much I enjoy spending time with children.

Okay tangent. My point was, being in the pool felt great but my knee was very stiff yesterday. I may have overdone it. Also, I don’t have a proper bathing suit to wear for lengths swimming, and searching out a good suit that will support what needs supporting and be comfortable at the same time, in a size and cut that fit my body … well, I’m not looking forward to the search, is all.

I googled the closest library to my new home and it’s just down the street a few blocks. Definitely walking distance once walking more than half a block is possible, anyway. But I have to wait until I get a Hydro bill so I can prove my residence – until then, I’ll be library commuting to the North Shore.

I guess that’s all there is for the update. Stay tuned for next week when I talk about the joys of home ownership and the cost of replacing a water heater.
