Bookworm

There is a used bookstore that specializes in mysteries down the street from my new house. I look at it every time I drive by, thinking I should go in there.

Today I did, and I walked out with 6 books. Who is surprised? Not me! It’s such a classic used bookstore – the bookcases go so high that there are step-stools scattered around; the floorboards squeaked gently as I browsed along the shelves; and that smell of used books – it’s indescribable but one of my favourites.

I don’t tend to buy mysteries because they are less enjoyable to reread, if I remember ‘whodunnit’. However, I have been slowly collecting Agatha Christie books by only buying them at used bookstores for a couple bucks each, and I have rediscovered an amazing author, Ellis Peters, whose prose is so enjoyable to read that I don’t mind rereading her stories. Brown’s Books (can the name be any more apt?) had a bunch of Ellis Peters, meaning I had to restrain myself from purchasing all of them.

It will be nice to stroll down there once every couple of months and add a few more treasures to my collection. I have 362 books so far – it explains buying the extra bookcases yesterday. They are getting delivered this afternoon and then my office/library will be complete!

I love that you actually counted how many books you have. My guess is I have 32 cookbooks alone.

There’s a freaking sexy as hell used bookstore on my way home from work.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING.

I don’t have bookshelves at my current place. No room. Nick has learned that if he wants to be romantic, a real good topic is to tell me about the library he’s going to build me one day… mmm, library.

I can’t think about how many books I’m storing at my mothers house. I go back every so often and grab another … 10-15 or so (and bring her a few I think she’d like, too.) *sigh* I’ve started leaving books at work as well just so I don’t have so many in my extremely limited book-space at home.

Donna, I am going to take a picture of my new sexy bookcases and send it to you, just to make you horribly jealous. :D

Which used bookstore are you referring to? Because I think I need to go check it out.

Nicole, I use LibraryThing to log all my books. You can check out my library here.
