I'm reading back in my LJ and I quoted this back in 2006:

"Desiring to control the feelings of other people, performing specific acts to garner a definitive result is in the realm of dominance. Control freaks, dominants and sadists wield whips, insults, kisses and cuddles in order to elicit specific feelings from people. Those who wish to relinquish control relinquish desired outcomes. Desiring to make someone happy is in the realm of dominance, not submission."

It's making me go hmmm.

Are you applying this quote to recent events or just reassessing it’s meaning?

Recent events. Well, D/s in general, I guess. If I’m looking at the situation with Boss, when I am with him he is totally in control of me. Therefore, I cannot influence his happiness; I can only be obedient (which does in itself make him happy). But letting go of desired outcomes is … difficult in practice.
