Hallway before unfucking

Hallway after unfucking

Bonus! Kitchen reset!

There was a king sized mattress in that hallway for the past … Six months? I posted it on Craig’s List but no one responded, and then it just became part of the landscape. Hailey, Alex, and I hauled it upstairs yesterday into Hailey’s old room so that she has a place to sleep when she crashes here. Suddenly the hallway became intolerable!

In 20 minutes I organized which cardboard boxes I wanted to keep for nosework and I found them a home. I broke down the rest of them and put them out in the recycle bag. I vacuumed the floor and hung my jackets up in the closet and moved the backpack that was spilling out onto the floor.

I still had time left in my 20 so I reset my kitchen. Didn’t think to take a before shot but I put away the dry dishes, washed the few things that were dirty, wiped down the counter, put out some more recycling, and left my lunch bag and the crosswords from the newspaper out so that I take them to work tomorrow.

All in 20 minutes!

I’m impressed! My house is such a wreck that it would take me 20 minutes (or more) just to figure out where things can go. It’s become like one of those puzzles you do as a kid with all the pieces that slide around inside a tray with one empty space, and you have to recreate the picture, only I don’t have an empty space anymore and the pieces are 2 and 3 deep. *sigh*

The whole idea of UFYH is to just do a little bit at a time and that those little bits will add up over time. Her tumbler is where she reposts people’s blogs that tag her and some people are starting from really bad places. I believe in you! Start small – but just start. 20 minutes.

Hey! 100% better! I really like your gate by the front door. I wish our house was set up so we could do something similar… my wheels are turning to make this work!

    • Erin says:

I love the gates. There is the one there and one just in front of me where I took the kitchen photo. The front door is to the left at the end of the kitchen. They keep the dogs from mobbing the front door and from keeping out from underfoot while I’m cooking.

      • re_vised says:

Those are the exact reasons I wouldn’t mind having more gates! We have one that prevents the dogs from going down into the basement. (Mainly because Bea feels it’s okay to poop down there.)

Nothing better than clearing space. I can’t deal with clutter.

    • Erin says:

I’ve never been a packrat but I do seem to have stuff. But recently all I want to do is unclutter. I want clean and clear surfaces!

It’s such a great feeling! I’ve been Craigslising/eBaying/re-homing stuff like crazy lately. Even if you don’t bring stuff home, it seems to appear of it’s own accord… Anyways, the changes you made look great!
