Facebook

I have decided to search out and block everyone from my work. I am very particular about who I am friends with on Facebook, and I hate the fact that receiving a friend request feels more like an obligation and less like an invitation.

The problem is I’m fb friends with a few people from work and then I guess it shows up as ‘hey you have X number of friends in common!’ and so then others friend me. My rule for work people is that I must have either hung out with you outside of work, or we must have had a conversation about non work things that I found interesting. If I only ever talk to you about work things then why would I want to read about the minutiae of your life?

That’s why I’ve decided to block everyone. Then they can’t even see if I exist on fb at all.

It’s probably a better idea to just block everyone, actually. Two of my co-workers are my friends on Facebook, and so far I’ve had no issues. My work place is kind of out of the ordinary, though.

Oh gods, me too. But they just keep Friending me. I’m like HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS HERE???

Gah. Stupid lack of privacy. And stupid social obligations.

I think there’s a way to make it so that people can’t see your profile at all, like your name isn’t clickable. I’ve seen that before, where someone comments on a friend’s post but their name isn’t a link. Maybe that’s the way to go instead? I dunno.

      Stupid social media!
