I foster puppies because I think I want one until one is in my house and is gogogo! And I realize that I appreciate my adult dogs who have off switches and understand what nap time means.
That said, Dodge is an absolute love. He is 70ish lbs of cuddle and squish. He has shown no human aggression, and Hailey and I have both grabbed his collar, shoved him, stuck our hands in his mouth, and I’ve touched him when he’s eating and when he has toys. Nothing.
He doesn’t always greet new dogs appropriately and he doesn’t really know how to play properly either. The day I brought him home I met Alex at the park with his dog Ohso. Dodge was growling and airsnapping at Ohso. I ran home to get my dogs and by the time I got back Dodge had settled down. He seems much more unsure on leash than off. Hailey and I introduced him to Dennis yesterday off leash and he didn’t growl or snap, and he met another dog named Ninja today on the dyke who he greeted appropriately – again off leash.
Yesterday he decided that grabbing at Dennis’s harness would be fun. Dennis turned and chased him down, giving epic snarly teeth. Dodge ran away with his tail tucked and a look on his face like ‘holy shit I wasn’t expecting that!’ and Hailey and I laughed and laughed.
** HAHA this picture was ENORMOUS so I’ve deleted it until I get home**
Look at those ears! (Sorry, I don’t know why that picture is so gigantic but I will try to shrink it when I get home!)
He’s been very good in the house although he thinks all the toys and bones belong to him so he gathers them up on a dog bed and hoards them. I can take them away from him though so he’s not guarding them. He slept on my bed the first night but now I have th?e xpen in my room so that Maia can have me all to herself at night.
Maia and Dodge sacked out on my bed after our two hour walk today.
